SPI published by Kemendag as much as a thousand tons to 92 134,6 Company Registered Importers (IT) or 84,15 percent of total needs for the period January-June (Semester I) which amounted to 160,000 tons.
Director General of foreign trade, Bachrul Chairi said that with the publication of the SPI in more or less 10-14 days, then garlic supply to the market and the Retail Market's parent, both traditional and modern retail market, expected to soon gain and ultimately help lower the price of garlic on the market.
Efforts to increase supply through importation will remain based on the rules that apply. Then, Kemendag will also continue to coordinate with local governments to smooth the flow of goods and the distribution of the four ports, namely Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Jakarta), Belawan (Medan), port Soekarno-Hatta (Makassar) and Tanjung Perak (Surabaya).

The price of garlic and onion are having quite a significant increase and become the biggest contributor to inflation in March 2013. "The Government is constantly working to stabilize the prices of basic necessities, including garlic and the shallots," stated Director General of domestic trade, Srie Agustina on equal opportunities.
