Airline merger means more lost baggage, flight delays

The typical passenger service problems when merging airlines.

"Could not find an airline merger lately that went very well," said Joe brankatili, editor of gosintmi, a travel Web site. "The biggest merger, there are more problems. A very complex computer integration. If you record in vain, your bags will probably be in vain. "

US Airways (LCC, Fortune 500), which pushed for the merger with America, declined to comment on the deal so far announced. But history suggests that any airline will come with lots of luggage.

For example, the number of passenger complaints, "American Airlines" to Ministry of transport over March 2007 when that company's reservation systems combined with America West after their merger. Things were not much better when "United Airlines" along with continental to form the "continental" United (UAL, Fortune 500) in March 2012; complaints about United has risen to 60%.

The complaints also increased and decreased performance in time, when you combine Delta Air lines (DAL, Fortune 500) and Northwest Airlines during 2009 and 2010.

Surprisingly, one unpleasant byproduct of the merger fear most-high prices because of reduced competition-often not realized. Knight of industry have increased less than 2 percent a year despite a series of mergers since 2004, according to a study by PricewaterhouseCoopers. That's less than the cost of fuel and employment increased over that time.

Apart from technical problems resulting from the merger, combining two distinct work creates its own challenges, especially in an industry where an employee's seniority plays a major role in working conditions.

"You're putting together two different cultures," said Kevin Mitchell, Chairman of the business travel Coalition, a group advocating already on record opposing plans to mix Air-America. "When you do a single culture it one way, and another was doing it last, it can take years to correct." and of course the employees concerned about job security change things.

Informed passengers of the "American Airlines" in the last year what could happen if the pilots are unhappy with management. When using American Bankruptcy Court to impose a less convenient to pilots, said the number of pilots calling in sick, as did the number of maintenance reports that they had been deposited before flights. Flight delays and cancellations rose, prompting some of their business begin to use other airlines.

And now unions in America is the endeavour to purchase through the "air". But while "Air America" agreed on the outlines of the new deals with unions in America, it's still clothes reach the final Union conventions of Western America "transaction" in 2005.

Even pull all these employees together will not be easy, and any kind of friction should lead to everything from lost reservations for flight service is snappy.

He said that "all about aviation service culture," brankantili. To top of page
